Our Story
Community Fridge Canada exists to support community-led responses to food insecurity. We believe access to food should be rooted in care, dignity, and shared responsibility, not stigma or gatekeeping.
-
Communities across Canada where people can meet their needs through mutual aid, and where surplus food is shared rather than wasted.
-
Community Fridge Canada supports grassroots groups by sharing resources, knowledge, and infrastructure to help community fridges start and thrive. We focus on strengthening local capacity so communities can care for one another on their own terms.
-
Dignity
Everyone deserves access to food without judgment, barriers, or surveillance.Mutual Aid
We believe in community-led solutions that prioritize shared responsibility and collective support.Sustainability
By redistributing surplus food and building local infrastructure, community fridges support both environmental and social well-being. -
Community fridges are simple, powerful tools. They are open, anonymous, and available 24/7, offering immediate access to food while reducing waste. Unlike traditional food programs, community fridges are hyper-local and community-run, fostering connection, trust, and collective care.
What We Do
Community Fridge Canada supports the people behind community fridges.
We provide guidance, shared resources, and connective infrastructure to help grassroots groups create, sustain, and strengthen community fridges in their neighborhoods. Our role is to support local efforts, not to run fridges ourselves.
By focusing on education, mentorship, coordination, and partnerships, we help community-led fridge projects grow in ways that are dignified, sustainable, and rooted in mutual aid.
